Ft. Pick'n It

Florida Snow

It’s Report Card time again and in celebration we planned a special camping trip at Ft. Pickens. The kids have really been itching to go  and the weather this past weekend was just irresistible. Now that 2 of the 3 mini Brandts have now mastered their bikes, we loaded them up among the 2 truckloads of camping necessities and headed out! (And yes, 2 truckloads is an absolutely reasonable amount of needed items for a night of camping…completely reasonable). The kids were *thrilled* when we arrived to see other kids roaming around and immediately set off to make some new friends. Even Gav enjoyed playing with the other kids as someone mentioned “Bey Blades” which of course made them instantly approved by Gavin. We cooked an exceptionally wonderful campfire dinner & roasted smores by the fire. We also taunted the kids with spooky stories about Geronimo (who was held at Ft. Pickens). The joke quickly became on us as I realized, well I don’t actually know anything about Geronimo …except that he was held at Ft. Pickens. Good thing I do know quite a lot about Google.

Sunday we spent the day at Ft. Pickens. I kind of expected the kids to think it was boring, but they were really excited and had a lot of fun learning about the Fort. They actually asked to stay and go to the museum, but it’s still closed due to hurricane damage. I hadn’t been to the Fort in years so I enjoyed roaming around. Turns out you can’t actually visit the cell that Geronimo was held in because it no longer exists, but we got to see some photos of him which the kids were thrilled about.

After we’d done our share of exploring, we headed to Peg Legs for a quick lunch date. The girls really wanted to go to the beach (though we assured them it was much to cold to swim) so we spent the afternoon at the seashore collecting shells and enjoying our “Florida Snow”.

Heaven requested this photo...she thought this was SO clever

Art in the Park

It has been a wonderfully rainy Saturday. We spent the majority of the day today holed up indoors in cozy clothes watching movies and trash TV. As a whole, it was blissful. Sure the kids were BORED ( I know, because they told me about 65 Bazillion times) but nothing beats a rainy afternoon movie marathon & an excuse to wear gym clothes all day long. Well...not much does anyway. Before the downpour started we ventured out to Art in the Park. Heaven was *so excited*. She loves art and was thrilled to have a chance to see "real" artwork and talk with some "real" artists ( I was a little offended she does not consider me a part of this "real" artist list...I mean, she's seen what I can do with some glitter glue). Mr. Eric Cobb was at the top of her list. He's been a Bestie of mine for years and is amazingly talented. If you're in the market for some palette knife artwork, you should check out his fabulousness  for yourself. Totally not the ...

Treaters

Here are the Branditos all ready to hit the streets trick or treating. We had a great time  & much to the kids pleasure came home with loads of candy. Of course their intake will be limited...but they haven't considered that just yet  (John already went through and claimed most of the kitkats) Gavin had trouble deciding exactly what he wanted to be this year. His top two picks, were Link from Zelda & a skeleton.  As you can see, in the end he decided on a skeleton. His costume was pretty cool & the bones were textured so you could feel them. The mask was short lived... thankfully... because honestly, it was a little scary... oh, and because it almost caused several accidents due to the limited visibility it provided. Heaven dressed as Abbey Bominable from Monster High. She's really into Monster High right now as I'm told it's very "cool" unfortunately her "cool" parents find most of the dolls a bit inappropriate, so really A...
