CSI

Heaven enjoyed her first "Juniors Only" Girl Scout even this weekend. The Pensacola Mess Hall sponsored a Crime Scene Investigation event for the older Scouts on Friday evening. We've been wanting to check out The Mess Hall for the last year or so, but it was one of those things that kept falling off our weekend to do list. Basically it's a hand's on Science Center where kids get to do "fun" (aka messy) experiments and the staff on hand tries to imprint the various scientific reasons for said messy experiments into the young minds.
Microscope Lab

As the event was "CSI" themed the girls did various detective type centers. They had a finger printing lab, where the girls studied their own unique finger print techniques, they had a microscope lab where they tried to match up various items under a microscope, they had a reactions lab where they studied how a certain chemical will react differently on different surface areas...you get the drift. The staff worked really hard to try and explain the "science side" of things but, honestly I think most of the girls were just excited to get to make messes freely.

This was pretty neat. It was a "Who Dun It" video where within the 60 second clip, 100 changes were made. It was interesting to see what got caught and what your eye didn't pick up.

"Code Solving" lab
Once the girls had a chance to run thru all the special CSI labs, they were free to use the other exhibits for the remainder of the event. Heaven said her favorite was the parachute building, followed closely by the Keva Plank building area.

Overall it was a great time...and hopefully the girls even learned a thing or two. We will definitely be returning with the full Brandtio clan in the future.

Art in the Park

It has been a wonderfully rainy Saturday. We spent the majority of the day today holed up indoors in cozy clothes watching movies and trash TV. As a whole, it was blissful. Sure the kids were BORED ( I know, because they told me about 65 Bazillion times) but nothing beats a rainy afternoon movie marathon & an excuse to wear gym clothes all day long. Well...not much does anyway. Before the downpour started we ventured out to Art in the Park. Heaven was *so excited*. She loves art and was thrilled to have a chance to see "real" artwork and talk with some "real" artists ( I was a little offended she does not consider me a part of this "real" artist list...I mean, she's seen what I can do with some glitter glue). Mr. Eric Cobb was at the top of her list. He's been a Bestie of mine for years and is amazingly talented. If you're in the market for some palette knife artwork, you should check out his fabulousness  for yourself. Totally not the ...

Treaters

Here are the Branditos all ready to hit the streets trick or treating. We had a great time  & much to the kids pleasure came home with loads of candy. Of course their intake will be limited...but they haven't considered that just yet  (John already went through and claimed most of the kitkats) Gavin had trouble deciding exactly what he wanted to be this year. His top two picks, were Link from Zelda & a skeleton.  As you can see, in the end he decided on a skeleton. His costume was pretty cool & the bones were textured so you could feel them. The mask was short lived... thankfully... because honestly, it was a little scary... oh, and because it almost caused several accidents due to the limited visibility it provided. Heaven dressed as Abbey Bominable from Monster High. She's really into Monster High right now as I'm told it's very "cool" unfortunately her "cool" parents find most of the dolls a bit inappropriate, so really A...
