This week was probably the most quite week I've ever had at the Brandt shack since John & I got married....why do you ask? BECAUSE THERE WERE NO KIDS!!! Thanks to Grandma all the kids got to go to Extreme Kids Camp this week at Pace Assembly. I was a bit hesitant to let them go, because we do not attend Pace Assembly and have been looking for a church of our own. But the kids were SO excited, I had to cave. They have been looking forward to this for months (literally, I've been hearing about this since around Thanksgiving) and we could not get their bags packed fast enough on Sunday night. Both girls were up by 5:45 on Monday morning (much to my displeasure) and Gavin was up shortly there after. As John had to leave early for work, the Mini's were forced to endure more than 2 hours of waiting at my office. I picked up Chick Fil A for breakfast though, and that did seem to help.
We arrived around 10 to get everyone checked in and settled into their home for the next 4 days. Luckily for us, Natalie & Gabe arrived right as we did so Gav was able to go with Gabe to set his cot up next to his. Gabe & Gavin were on the blue team for the week while both girls were on the purple team. Within minutes of arriving, both girls were sporting purple "warpaint" on their faces & purple bandannas. In very "uncool" Mom fashion, I of course walked them to their rooms to unpack and force final goodbyes upon them. Gavin was all settled in when I stopped by. He was not sporting any face paints, but he did seem to be pretty excited just the same.
Mrs. Brandt stayed at camp throughout the week (as Gavin requires special attention at times and there was no one pre scheduled to help out with him-thus Gavin could not have gone without someone assigned to him) and reported the kids did great. Everyone came home with numerous stories to tell. There were numerous swimming days, lots of team competitions (though all Brandts were "defeated") & some really funny speakers. The girls returned with crafts from Africa (apparently one of the speakers was a missionary who'd recently been there) & also several new songs. While Mrs. B did say Gavin had a few minor issues, he said he would like to go to camp next year & his favorite part was swimming. He also said he learned some new songs, but he wasn't ready to share them just yet.
Peace may be over at the Brandt house, but I'm glad to have my Minis back!
